TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts track and field and cross country programs have added transfer distance runner Kelvin Chiku, Head Coach Alick Musukuma announced Thursday.
Chiku will compete for both the track and field and cross country teams.
"Kelvin is a great boost to our men's track and field and cross country programs; he's going to bring enthusiasm to our team," said Musukuma. "His maturity in running fits well with what we are trying to accomplish here at Oral Roberts University. He fits perfectly with our culture, he's hungry to be great, and he's very excited to be part of the Golden Eagle family."
"I'm very happy to have someone like him, especially at his position. He could have signed with any school in NCAA Division I, but he chose to come to ORU. This is a sign that God is doing amazing things for our track and field and cross country programs. Words are not enough to express our deepest gratitude to what God is doing here."
Chiku most recently competed for the University of Southern Mississippi, where he specialized in the middle-distance events.
The Marondera, Zimbabwe, native brings an impressive collegiate resume with strong performances across several distances:
- 400m: 49.98
- 600m: 1:20.35
- 800m: 1:48.71
- 1000m: 2:28.33
- 1500m: 3:54.52
- Mile: 4:15.31
With a powerful mix of endurance and top-end speed, Chiku adds valuable depth to the ORU distance group.
