AZUSA, CALI. – Abraham Chelangam continued his standout career at Oral Roberts University, setting a new program record in the men's 5000M at the 2026 Bryan Clay Invitational this weekend.
Competing in a loaded invitational field, Chelangam clocked a blazing 13:36.76 to finish eighth overall in his section, breaking the previous school record and establishing a new benchmark in Golden Eagle distance running history. The senior navigated a fast-paced race from the start, holding strong positioning throughout before closing hard over the final laps to secure the historic performance.
Chelangam's time improved upon his previous personal best of 13:48.26, which he set at Boston University's indoor meet in December, marking a significant 12-second improvement against one of the nation's deepest distance fields. The performance also places him among the top times in program history and strengthens his position for postseason qualification later this spring.
The Bryan Clay Invitational, widely regarded as one of the premier distance meets in collegiate track and field, annually features elite competition from across the NCAA and professional ranks.
