Box Score
SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- For the third time in two
days, ORU's offense was stymied by a strong pitching performance as
Texas-San Antonio defeated the Golden Eagles 4-2 Sunday at Wolff
Stadium, completing a three-game sweep.
Senior right-hander Scott Sanders (1-0) baffled ORU in his 8.2
innings of work, allowing two runs on eight hits, striking out just
two but walking none. ORU mounted a two-out threat in the top of
the ninth, loading the base with two outs before UTSA reliever
Lucas Stewart ended the threat by striking out Ryan Welborn to end
the game.
ORU (1-3) took an early 2-0 lead on David Castillo's two-run
single in the third. But the Golden Eagles couldn't break through
for any more runs against Sanders, as ORU had just two leadoff
batters reach base all game.
Dennis Bigley (0-1) was the hard luck loser for the Golden
Eagles. Bigley, who needed just 36 pitches in cruising through the
first four innings, was touched for four runs in the fifth as UTSA
(4-6) strung together five singles in the inning.
Bigley went 7.2 innings and allowed four runs on seven hits,
striking out four and allowing just one walk.
Eric Keller and Scott Campbell each had a pair of hits for ORU
as the Golden Eagles were limited to just eight hits for the
game.
The Golden Eagles return to action when they face South Alabama
in the opening game of the McNeese State Lake Area Classic, 3 p.m.,
Friday in lake Charles, LA.
