TULSA, Okla. -- Taylor McIntyre threw five
solid innings in leading Oral Roberts to a rain-shortened 6-2 win
over Missouri Southern, Wednesday at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
The game was called after a torrential downpour delayed play for
25 minutes. The win improves ORU to 7-9 overall, while MSSC drops
to 12-8.
McIntyre (1-0), a freshman left-hander, was solid in his second
start of the season, allowing two runs and four hits, striking out
four without a walk.
ORU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Grant Plumley led
off with a double and later scored on Josh Lex's two-out RBI
single.
Missouri Southern came back with two runs in the top of the
third with Zack Bronson and Nathan Hughes picking up RBI base hits
to give the Lions a 2-1 lead.
But ORU exploded for five runs in the bottom of the third,
taking a 6-2 lead. Lex, Matt VanDerBosch and Andy Hargrove each had
RBI singles against MSSC starter Hughes (2-2), and a pair of runs
scored on a two-out error.
Lex led ORU's seven-hit attack with a 2-for-2 performance,
including two RBI and a pair of steals. Scott Campbell was 1-for-2
with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored.
The Golden Eagles return to action when they host the first of
three games against Kent State, 7 p.m., Friday at J.L. Johnson
Stadium.
