TULSA, Okla. -- Matt VanDerBosch was 4-for-5
with two RBI and David Castillo added three hits and three RBI as
Oral Roberts pounded Kent State 13-7, Saturday at J.L. Johnson
Stadium.
ORU (9-9) fell behind 5-0 after four innings as Golden Eagle
starter Nick Gor had trouble in both the third and fourth innings.
Gor surrendered a two-out, bases loaded double to Eric O'Brien in
the third as Kent State took a 3-0 lead, then was knocked from the
game in the fourth after the Golden Flashes (7-8) took advantage of
two errors, a wild pitch and a hit batter for a 5-0 lead.
But ORU came back in the bottom of the fourth, roughing up Kent
State starter Matt Lorenzo (3-2) for six runs on four hits and an
error. Five different players knocked in runs with VanDerBosch and
Castillo collecting RBI base hits as ORU took a 6-5 lead.
Castillo belted a two-run home run, his fifth of the season, in
the bottom of the sixth for an 8-5 lead, but Kent State's Kurt
Eichorn smashed a two-run homer in the top of the eighth, trimming
ORU's lead to 8-7.
ORU again came back, this time scoring five runs against three
Kent State pitchers in the bottom of the eighth. Andy Hargrove had
a two-run single and Scott Campbell doubled home a pair as ORU put
the game out of reach.
Kris Kline (2-3) worked four solid innings in relief of Gor,
allowing two runs on two hits and striking out two with one
walk.
The Golden Eagles pounded out 12 hits on the day and ran wild on
the base paths, stealing seven bases in eight attempts. VanDerBosch
stole three bases and Kevin Lamb also stole a pair for ORU.
The Golden Eagles and Golden Flashes conclude their three game
series at 1 p.m. Sunday at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
