TULSA, Okla. -- David Castillo capped his
torrid weekend with a four RBI day as Oral Roberts pounded out 18
hits in defeating Kent State 12-4 Sunday at J.L. Johnson Stadium,
giving ORU a sweep of the three-game series.
ORU (10-9) wins its fourth straight game and climbed over the
.500 mark for the first time since a season--opening win over St.
Gregory's.
Castillo, a junior catcher, was 3-for-3 including a three-run
home run in the first inning. In three games against the Golden
Flashes (7-9) Castillo was 8-for-9 with three home runs and nine
runs batted in.
The Golden Eagles took a 3-0 lead on Castillo's homer in the
first, then piled on seven runs in the bottom of the second for a
10-0 lead. Dennis Bigley and Andy Hargrove hit back-to-back homers
in the second, Bigley's a three-run shot off KSU starter Josh Mayle
(0-1). Hargrove hit his against reliever Justin Laraway.
The Golden Flashes got on the board with two runs in the third
inning. Adam Crowder hit a solo home run and Chris Welsch had a
sacrifice fly.
Laraway kept ORU off the board until the Golden Eagles broke
through for two runs in the sixth as Grant Plumley and Kevin Lamb
had RBI singles for ORU.
Andrew Collup (2-0) picked up the win in his first start for
ORU, scattering seven hits and allowing four runs in 5.2 innings.
Collup struck out four and walked three. Freshman Alex Chalfant
picked up the save with 3.1 shutout innings of relief. Chalfant
allowed two hits and fanned five.
Castillo wasn't the only Golden Eagle batter with a big day.
Hargrove finished 3-for-5 with an RBI, Plumley was 2-for-5 with two
RBI and Ryan Welborn was 2-for-3 with three runs and three steals.
Eight of ORU's nine starters collected at least one hit.
The Golden Eagles next host Wichita State, 7 p.m., Tuesday at
J.L. Johnson Stadium.
