Northeastern Hangs on For 8-6 Win Over ORU

Box Score

TULSA, Okla. -- Oral Roberts' ninth inning rally fell short as Northeastern held on for an 8-6 win over the Golden Eagles, Saturday at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

The loss snaps ORU's six-game winning streak and drops the Golden Eagles to 12-10 overall. Northeastern improves to 4-5 with the win.

Northeastern grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and ORU tied it on Ryan Welborn's RBI double in the bottom of the third. The Huskies came right back with two runs in the top of the fourth for a 3-1 lead.

Lamb scored on an error in the fifth to make it a 3-2 game, and Matt VanDerBosch scored on a passed ball in the sixth, tying the game at three. But again Northeastern answered, taking a 5-3 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh.

After ORU trimmed Northeastern's lead to 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh, the Huskies plated three runs in the top of eighth for an 8-4 lead. First baseman Tim Bush laced a two-run single to highlight the scoring for NU.

Justin Hedrick (2-0) picked up the win for Northeastern, allowing four runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings with nine strikeouts and six walks. Bush picked up his firsts ave of the season with 2.1 solid innings of relief. Alex Chalfant (0-1) was the loser for ORU, allowing two runs in two-thirds of an inning.

Kris Kline started for ORU and went 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on six hits, but he walked five batters and struck out none.

Welborn led ORU with a 4-for-4 effort. VanDerBosch finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs, and Lamb went 2-for-4.
