CHICAGO -- Oral Roberts University swept a
Mid-Continent Conference doubleheader from Chicago State, winning
the first game 9-5 and the nightcap 14-3, Saturday at Cougar
Field.
In game one, ORU (22-17, 5-1) scored four times in the top of
the ninth, breaking a 5-5 tie for the win. Dennis Bigley had a
two-run double and Josh Lex followed with a two-run single in the
inning. Justin Ramsey (4-0) set down the Cougars (6-31, 1-5) in
order in the bottom of the ninth for the win. Ramsey allowed one
unearned run on two hits in 3.2 innings, fanning four batters.
The second game saw ORU break open a 3-1 contest with seven runs
in the fourth inning. Bigley and Ryan Welborn each had two-run
singles in the fourth as the Golden Eagles sent 13 batters to the
plate.
Overall, the Golden Eagles pounded out 24 hits in the two games
and took advantage of 10 walks by CSU pitchers in game two. Bigley
(5-2) started and picked up the win in the second game, allowing
one run on three hits in four innings, striking out four.
Lex was 3-for-8 with five RBI on the day. Matt VanDerBosch and
David Castillo each had four hits in two games, with VanDerBosch
hitting two triples in game one and walking four times in game two.
Castillo drove in three runs and scored four times.
The Golden Eagles and Cougars conclude their four-game series
with a 10 a.m. doubleheader on Sunday.
