CHICAGO -- Oral Roberts University hit seven
home runs -- including two each by David Castillo and Kevin Lamb --
as the Golden Eagles swept a Mid-Continent Conference doubleheader
from Chicago State, Sunday at Cougar Field.
ORU (24-17, 7-1) won the opener 21-2 and took the nightcap 14-3.
The Golden Eagles, who sept the four-game weekend series, collected
31 hits in the two games, and Chicago State (6-33, 1-7) pitchers
walked 17 batters.
Castillo sizzled at the plate all weekend, going 10-for-13 with
two home runs and nine RBI. The junior catcher also drew six walks
in four games, and scored 11 times. He hit a three-run homer in
game one and a two-run blast in game two.
But it was Lamb who led the offensive charge for ORU in the
opener. The sophomore outfield hit a pair of homers in game one
�€" betling a solo homer in the fourth and a two-run
shot in the seventh �€" part of a six-HR effort in game
one. Lamb's leadoff homer in the fourth sparked a 4-run inning,
which also featured a 2-run homer by Dennis Bigley.
Grant Plumley and Josh Lex also homered in game one for ORU.
Lamb was 4-for-5 with four RBI and three runs while Castillo was
4-for-4 with four runs and four RBI in game one.
Sean Sorrow (3-1) picked up the win after allowing two runs on
seven hits in 6.1 innings of relief. Sorrow walked two and fanned a
career-high eight batters.
Chicago State took an early 1-0 lead in game two, but it was
short-lived. ORU tied the game at one in the second, then broke it
open with nine runs in the third. Grant Plumley and Josh Lex had
two-run singles, and Castillo hit his league-leading 12th round
tripper to cap the third and give ORU a 10-1 lead.
Dallas Martin (4-6) pitched his second straight complete game
for the Golden Eagles, allowing three runs on four hits while
striking out nine.
