SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Oral Roberts scored six
runs in the fifth inning and the SMS offense could never generate a
rally as ORU handed SMS a 7-1 defeat Wednesday night at Price
Cutter Park.
After four impressive innings from SMS starter David Bader,
junior LHP Ryan Brunk (0-2) entered the game in the fifth and
allowed six runs on seven hits to the 10 men he faced in two-thirds
of an inning. Jeff Claybrook came in to get the final out of the
inning but by then the Golden Eagles had a comfortable lead.
Meanwhile, ORU starter Dennis Bigley (6-2) was in control.
Working on a pitch count of 75 pitches, Bigley allowed just five
hits and no walks in five innings of work. He struck out five while
getting the victory.
ORU (26-17) also got two innings of scoreless relief from Dallas
Martin and Justin Ramsey allowed the only SMS run but he struck out
five SMS batters in just two innings of work.
Rick Wilson managed three hits for SMS which had just eight hits
in the game.
