TULSA�€"Oral Roberts University will honor the 1978 College World
Series in ceremonies prior to ORU's Tuesday, March 23 contest
with Oklahoma
at J.L. Johnson
Stadium.
Fifteen members
of the '78 team, including former All-Americans George Bjorkman,
Ron Meridith, Bill Springman and Bob Volk, as well as former ORU
head coach Larry Cochell �€" currently the head coach
at Oklahoma -- will be on hand as the team is honored. The number
78 will be permanently retired and will hang on the centerfield
wall along with ORU's other retired baseball numbers
�€" Cochell's #1, the late Jim Brewer's #29, and Mike
Moore's #22.
Tuesday's game is
also Alumni Night as all ORU baseball alums and their families will
be admitted to the game at a reduced rate.

The 1978 Titans finished the season
with a 45-12 record and a No. 5 national ranking by Collegiate
Baseball newspaper. The Titans defeated North Carolina in their CWS opener 11-0, with Meridith
tossing a 4-hit shutout. ORU lost its next game to Ariona State 7-6, and was eliminated the following
day with a 5-3 loss to Miami (Fla.).
