Box Score
TULSA€"Dennis Bigley (Lancaster,
Texas) tossed a complete game three-hitter and Ricky Rivera (Santa Isabel,
P.R.) homered twice as Oral Roberts University downed Creighton
6-1, Friday in the opening game of a three-game series at J.L.
Johnson Stadium.
Bigley (3-0) struck out
six and did not walk a batter, allowing just a single run in the
fifth inning in lowering his season ERA to 1.20.
After Bigley
surrendered an RBI groundout in the top of the fifth for a 1-0
Creighton lead, the Golden Eagles used a two-out rally to grab a
2-1 lead. Brain
Hanson (Kelseyville, Calif.) singled home Kevin Lamb (Owasso, Okla.)
and Matt
VanDerBosch (Hastings, Minn.) who each reached on two-out
singles.
The 2-1 lead was more
than enough for Bigley, who retired the game's final 13 batters
without allowing a base runner. But ORU'S offense wasn't
through.
Rivera connected for
his first home run in the sixth, a solo shot off Creighton (3-4)
starter Steve Grasley (1-2), for a 3-1 ORU lead. Grant Plumley (Lake Forest,
calif.) led off the eighth with his first home run of the year and,
after a walk to Josh
Lex (Elk Grove, Calif.), Rivera hit a two-run blast off
Bluejays reliever Jon Gorden for the final 6-1 margin.
The Golden Eagles
pounded out 10 hits, with Rivera's 2-for-4, three RBI performance
leading the way. Plumley finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and Hanson
was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
The Golden Eagles and
Bluejays play game two of their series 2 p.m., Saturday at J.L.
Johnson Stadium.
