Tulsa, OK - The Oral Roberts University baseball team notched its
seventh consecutive victory by defeating Southwest Missouri State
5-1 Tuesday afternoon at JL Johnson Stadium.
ORU improved to
10-3 with the win, while SMS dropped to 4-6.
In his first
start of the season, Golden Eagle senior Sean Sorrow (1-1) allowed
just one run and six hits while striking out 11. Normally a middle-reliever, Sorrow
recorded his first career complete game in six starts.
In the seventh
inning, junior first baseman Dennis Bigley sent his third homerun
of the season deep over the left field wall driving in shortstop
Grant Plumley. Plumley
reached base each of his four plate appearances by walking twice,
singling, and doubling, while driving in two runs.
SMS starter
David Smith (0-1) allowed six hits and three earned runs before
coming out of the game after just two innings. Ryan Gotcher led SMS offensively with
two hits in four at-bats.
ORU returns to
the diamond 4:00 Friday afternoon to face UC-Irvine at the
Pepperdine Yellowbook Classic in Malibu, Calif.
