TULSA�€"Blake Torgerson allowed three runs in seven
innings of work and BYU came from behind for the second straight
day in handing Oral Roberts University a 7-4 defeat and winning the
three-game series two games to one, Saturday at J.L. Johnson
Stadium.
ORU (6-5) took a 1-0
lead on an RBI single by Dennis Bigley (
Lancaster, Texas) in the first inning.
After Brandon Taylor
tied the game with a wind-aided solo home run in the top of the
second, Michael
Hollimon (Dallas, Texas) gave ORU a 3-1 lead with a
two-run home run in the bottom of the second.
But once again, BYU
came back. The Cougars trimmed ORU's lead to 3-2 on an RBI single
by Kory Knell in the fourth, and Sean McNaughton gave BYU a 4-3
with a two-run home run off ORU starter Nick Jones (Broken Arrow,
Okla.) in the fifth.
BYU added two more runs
off the ORU bullpen in the top of the seventh. The Cougars drew a
bases-loaded walk and a run-scoring single from Taylor, taking a
6-3 lead. BYU added a seventh and final run on a sacrifice fly in
the top of the eighth.
The Golden Eagles added
their final run on a two-out RBI single by Travis DeBondt
(Bakersfield, Calif.) in the bottom of the ninth.
Jones (1-2) took the
loss for ORU, allowing four runs on seven hits in five innings of
work.
Torgerson (1-1) struck
out three and didn't walk a batter in his seven innings of
work.
DeBondt led ORU at the
plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Hollimon was
2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs. Taylor paced BYU with two hits
and two RBI.
The Golden Eagles
return to action when they face Southwest Missouri State in the
opening game of the Alamo City Classic, 5:30 p.m., Wednesday in San
Antonio, Texas.
