SAN ANTONIO, TX--All-American
Dennis Bigley (Lancaster, Texas) pitched six
shutout innings on the mound and drove in a career-high seven runs
at the plate in leading Oral Roberts University to an 11-0 win over
Southwest Missouri State at the Alamo City Irish Baseball
Classic.
Bigley (3-0) scattered five hits
and struck out two batters in his six innings of work in gaining
his 33rd career victory. Bigley is now one win shy of tying Michael
Rogers atop both the ORU and Mid-Continent Conference all-time wins
list.
At the plate, Bigley got the Golden
Eagles' (7-5) offense rolling with a bases loaded, three-run double
in the top of the fourth. Jon Tackett (Tulsa,
Okla.) followed Bigley's double with an RBI single for a 4-0 ORU
lead.
Bigley was at it again in the top
of the fifth, driving in three more runs with another bases loaded
double as ORU took a 7-0 lead.
ORU took a 10-0 lead in the sixth,
tanks in part to a couple of errors, two walks and a sacrifice fly.
Bigley drove in the first run on an error by the Bears' (4-7) third
baseman, Ricky Rivera (Santa Isabel, P.R.) drew a
bases loaded walk for the second run and Kevin
Lamb (Owasso, Okla.) plated ORU's third run with a
sacrifice fly.
Tackett belted a solo home run in
the seventh, his first of the season, for ORU's final run.
The Golden Eagles pounded out 10
hits and also drew a season-high 10 walks on the day. Bigley
finished 2-for-5 with two runs and seven RBI, while Brian
Hanson (Kelseyville, Calif.) was 2-for-5 with three runs.
Tackett was 2-for-3 with two RBI and catcher Brian
Aguailar (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) was 2-for-5.
The Golden Eagles continue play in
the Alamo City Irish Baseball Classic when they face Texas-San
Antonio at 5:30 p.m.
