TULSA, Okla. €" The Golden Eagle offense got going
early and often, as the Oral Roberts University baseball team
collected 18 hits en route to a 14-0, run-rule win over Missouri
Southern, Saturday afternoon at JL Johnson Stadium.
Chad Rothford (Fresno, Calif.) paced the ORU bats
with a home run, two RBIs, and three runs scored, while
Taylor McIntyre (Edmond, Okla.) picked up his
first win of the season by pitching six no-hit innings with five
strike outs and only one walk.
The home side got things going early on in the first inning, as
Jake Kahaulelio (Windsor, Calif.) singled in
Tim Torres (San Pablo, Calif.) to give ORU a 1-0
lead just three batters into the ball game. After a Rothford walk
loaded the bases, Andy Bouchie (Riverside, Calif.)
and Pat Warfle (Melbourne, Fla.) followed with a
pair of sacrifice flies to give the Golden Eagles a 3-0
advantage.
The offense wasn't done yet, however, as a double and a walk loaded
the bases for Travis DeBondt (Bakersfield, Calif.)
who connected with a two-run single to center to put ORU up 5-0
after just one inning of play.
Warfle made it 7-0 in the second, as he sent a two-out double to
left field, plating Rothford and Bouchie. The Golden Eagles then
scored single tallies in the third and fourth innings to increase
the lead to 9-0.
McIntyre, meanwhile, was just cruising along on the mound for ORU,
retiring the first seven batters he faced and only allowing one
Lion runner to reach second base through his first five innings of
work.
The Golden Eagles continued to pour it on in the fifth, as Torres
led the inning off with a shot over the bull pen in right and
Rothford connected on a two-run job just three batters later to
make it 12-0.
Torres would finish the afternoon 3-of-5 with a home run, RBI, and
three runs scored.
McIntyre finished his day by retiring the side in order in the
sixth, as he sat down the last 10 MSSU batters he faced.
ORU added two more runs in the sixth before Caleb
Rogers (Waxahachie, Texas) struck-out the side in the
seventh to give the home squad a 14-0 win.
Kahaulelio had three hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored for the
Golden Eagles, while Warfle had a team-high three RBIs. Bouchie was
a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored.
ORU and Missouri Southern will conclude their three game set with a
1:00 p.m. matinee start on Sunday afternoon. That game can be heard
live in Tulsa on KCFO AM 970 or via the web at
