TULSA�€"Kelly Minissale and Jake Kahaulelio
combined for six hits and six RBI to lead Oral Roberts University
to a 16-0 victory and a three-game series sweep of Missouri
Southern, Sunday at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
In three games against
the Lions (0-3) the Golden Eagles (3-0) scored 39 runs and banged
out 47 hits, including six home runs. In Sunday's series finale
Minissale, Kahaulelio and Brian Aguailar each connected for their
first home runs of the season, giving ORU six homers in its first
three games.
Leading 3-0 following a
Minissale solo home run in the first and a pair of runs in the
third, the Golden Eagles broke open the game with a nine-run fifth
inning. Kahaulelio doubled in a run and Chad Rothford connected for
a sacrifice fly for a 5-0 lead. Aguailar and Tim Torres followed with
RBI singles, and Minissale laced a two-run triple. Kahaulelio
capped the scoring with an RBI single as ORU sent 12 batters to the
plate.
Aguailar belted a
two-run home run as part of a three-run sixth inning, and
Kahaulelio finished the scoring with a solo homer in the
seventh.
Minissale finished the
day a double shy of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored
and three RBI. Kahaulelio was 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBI,
while Agualiar, Andy
Bouchie and Ben Baker each collected
two hits. Aguailar had three RBI.
Newcomer Sean Jarrett (1-0) picked
up the win on the mound, tossing 6.0 scoreless innings and striking
out three with two walks. Daniel Greenwalt, Chance Chapman and
Chris Ashman
each tossed a scoreless inning of relief.
Not to be out-done by
the offense, ORU pitchers enjoyed a stellar weekend as well. In
three games, Golden Eagles pitching allowed just two runs on 11
hits.
The Golden Eagles
return to action when they face
Kansas State in the opening round of the UTA Invitational, 11:30
a.m. Friday in Arlington, Texas.
