Offense Carries ORU to Series Sweep of Missouri Southern

TULSA€"Kelly Minissale and Jake Kahaulelio combined for six hits and six RBI to lead Oral Roberts University to a 16-0 victory and a three-game series sweep of Missouri Southern, Sunday at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

In three games against the Lions (0-3) the Golden Eagles (3-0) scored 39 runs and banged out 47 hits, including six home runs. In Sunday's series finale Minissale, Kahaulelio and Brian Aguailar each connected for their first home runs of the season, giving ORU six homers in its first three games.

Leading 3-0 following a Minissale solo home run in the first and a pair of runs in the third, the Golden Eagles broke open the game with a nine-run fifth inning. Kahaulelio doubled in a run and Chad Rothford connected for a sacrifice fly for a 5-0 lead. Aguailar and Tim Torres followed with RBI singles, and Minissale laced a two-run triple. Kahaulelio capped the scoring with an RBI single as ORU sent 12 batters to the plate.

Aguailar belted a two-run home run as part of a three-run sixth inning, and Kahaulelio finished the scoring with a solo homer in the seventh.

Minissale finished the day a double shy of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI. Kahaulelio was 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBI, while Agualiar, Andy Bouchie and Ben Baker each collected two hits. Aguailar had three RBI.

Newcomer Sean Jarrett (1-0) picked up the win on the mound, tossing 6.0 scoreless innings and striking out three with two walks. Daniel Greenwalt, Chance Chapman and Chris Ashman each tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

Not to be out-done by the offense, ORU pitchers enjoyed a stellar weekend as well. In three games, Golden Eagles pitching allowed just two runs on 11 hits.

The Golden Eagles return to action when they face Kansas State in the opening round of the UTA Invitational, 11:30 a.m. Friday in Arlington, Texas.
