NEW ORLEANS, La.�€"Twelfth-ranked Tulane belted a pair
of home runs during a four-run third inning and then held on for a
7-5 win over Oral Roberts University, snapping the Golden Eagles'
four-game winning streak Friday at Zephyr Field.
ORU (9-4) took a 2-0
lead in the op of the third on an RBI single by Andy Bouchie and an RBI
double by Travis
DeBondt. But the lead was short-lived as the Green Wave
rallied in the bottom of the inning against ORU starter Nick Jones (3-2).
With one out and the
bases empty, Max Kwan reached on an error by Jones and Nathan
Southard followed with a home run to left field, tying the game at
2-2. Cat Everett followed Southard's homer with a single and, after
Brad Emaus struck out, Mark Hamilton homered to dead center field
to give Tulane a 4-2 lead.
The Green Wave added
single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before ORU struck back.
DeBondt blasted a one-out solo home run in the top of the sixth,
trimming Tulane's lead to 6-3.
Tulane got the run back
in the bottom of the sixth, but ORU answered back in the top of the
seventh. Jake
Kahaulelio knocked a one-out, RBI single to make it 7-4. A
balk moved Kahaulelio and Brian Aguailar over to
second and third, respectively, but Tim Torres lined into a double
play to end the inning.
ORU added its final run
in the top of the eighth when Brendan Duffy was hit by a
pitch with the bases loaded. But ORU missed out on a chance for
more runs when Carter
McQuigg was thrown out a home plate on a bases-loaded wild
pitch.
Jones allowed allowed
all seven runs (four earned) on eight hits in 6.0 innings. He
struck out six and walked four. Sean Morgan (3-1) earned the win
for Tulane.
The Golden Eagles
out-hit the Green Wave 10-8. Bouchie, DeBondt, Kahaulelio and
Aguailar each had two hits.
The two teams meet
again at 2 p.m., Saturday.
