IRVINE,
Calif.€"UC-Irvine scored five runs in the bottom of
the sixth inning as the Anteaters rallied for a 7-2 win over Oral
Roberts University in the opening game of a three-game series,
Thursday at Anteater Ballpark.
The Golden Eagles
(10-6) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Second
baseman Jake Kahaulelio doubled in the first run and catcher Brian
Aguailar singled in the second run two batters later.
But ORU couldn't hold
the lead. Starter Taylor McIntyre (1-3) allowed single runs in the
fourth and fifth innings before the Anteaters (14-9) exploded in
the sixth. UCI chased McIntyre in the sixth following a lead-off
single by Spike McDougall.
Eric Crichton relieved
McIntyre and hit the first batter he faced, and then allowed an RBI
single as UCI took a 3-2 lead. A fielder's choice ground out made
it 4-2, and a sacrifice fly gave UCI a 5-2 lead. Jaime Martinez
singled in a pair of runs for a 7-2 lead.
Justin Cassel (3-3)
limited the Golden Eagles to just nine hits and two runs over
7-plus innings, striking out five with three walks. McIntyre
enjoyed his best outing in over a month for ORU, but suffered the
loss after allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits in 5-plus
innings.
Kahaulelio was the only
Golden Eagle with more than one hit, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The Golden Eagles and
Anteaters meet again at
8 p.m. CST, Friday.
