Baseball Opens 3-Game Set with Bethune-Cookman on Friday


Golden Eagles Host MEAC Power Bethune-Cookman in Weekend Series
Perennial Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference power Bethune-Cookman visits J.L. Johnson Stadium for a three-game weekend series, beginning Friday at 7 p.m. ... the Wildcats are to the MEAC what ORU is to the Mid-Con: a dominant program ... The Wildcats won six consecutive MEAC titles from 1999-2004, advancing to NCAA Regional play each time ... after this weekend ORU has two games remaining on its nine-game home stand: April 4 vs. Oklahoma State (at Driller's Stadium) and April 11 against Wichita State (makeup from March 21 postponed contest).



The Coaches
Rob Walton is in his third season as ORU head coach, with a record of 103-42 (.710). The 2004 Mid-Con Coach of the Year, Walton spent last summer as the pitching coach for USA Baseball's National Team. Bethune-Cookman's Mervyl Melendez is in his in his seventh season with the Wildcats.

Golden Eagles Snap Record 7-game Losing Streak
Chad Rothford went 4-for-5 with four RBI, helping Oral Roberts University snap a seven-game losing streak with a 13-1 victory over Texas-Arlington, Tuesday at J.L. Johnson Stadium. Rothford was one of five Golden Eagles with at least two hits as ORU enjoyed its best offensive performance since a 13-6 win at then-No. 12 Tulane on March 11. The junior first baseman homered, doubled and added a pair of singles. In addition to Rothford's strong day at the plate Brendan Duffy, Kelly Minissale, Jake Kahaulelio and Andy Bouchie each had two hits. Bouchie had four RBI and scored three times.



Wichita State Game Rescheduled for April 11
ORU's postponed March 21st game with Wichita State has been rescheduled for April 11 at J.L. Johnson Stadium. The game will be the first of back-to-back contests between the Golden Eagles and Shockers. ORU visits Eck Stadium the following night.



ORU Hosts Oklahoma State at Drillers Stadium on April 4
The Golden Eagles continue one of their oldest and fiercest rivalries next Tuesday when they host Oklahoma State in a at Drillers Stadium. The game, which be televised live statewide on Cox Communications, will be ORU's first at Tulsa Double-A stadium since 2001 against Oklahoma.
