Tulsa, Okla.- Oral Roberts University (7-3) overcame a 6-3 deficit
in the seventh inning to topple UC-Davis(8-7) 8-6 in game two of a
three-part series on Saturday afternoon at J.L. Johnson
Stadium.
The Golden
Eagles were able to take advantage of the UC-Davis pitching staff
and tally four runs in the bottom of the seventh .Aggies pitcher
Nik Aurora walked Andy
Bouchie with the bases loaded to bring the score to 6-4,
then gave up a two run single to Kelly Minissale to tie it up.
After intentionally walking first baseman Chad Rothford, Aurora
walked catcher Brian Aguilar, scoring Bouchie and giving ORU a 7-6
lead with no outs and the bases loaded. Ben Baker flied out and
Pat Warfle
hit into a double play to end the inning, but the damage had been
done.
ORU threatened
early, scoring in the bottom of the first when Brandon Duffy put himself
in scoring position after stealing second base, then advancing to
third off of a throwing error by Aggies catcher Tyler LaTorre.
Duffy was batted in by Jake Kahaulelio to bring
the score to 1-0.
The Aggies
answered in the third inning with a pair of runs to bring the score
to 2-0. First baseman Jimmy Goetz knocked in teammates Brandon
Oliver and David Huffman to give UC-Davis a one run lead.
The Golden
Eagles responded in the bottom of the third. Three base hits loaded
the bases for Tim
Torres, who took advantage of the situation and singled to
right field, scoring Pat Warfle and tying the
game at 2-2.
The Aggies
scored again in the fourth, were shut down in the fifth, then
notched three runs in the sixth inning to bring the score to 6-2.
Goetz and LaTorre got on base with a pair of singles, then Michael
Hernandez doubled to left field to bring home Goetz and pinch
hitter Lukas Kirby singled to second, scoring LaTorre. Hernandez
scored on a throwing error by second baseman Jake Kahaulileo to bring
the score to 6-2 and give the Aggies their biggest lead of the
day.
The Eagles then
took the lead in the bottom of the seventh, notching four runs to
bring the score to 7-6. ORU scored again in the eighth off of a
Kahaulelio single which scored Duffy.
ORU Pitcher
Chris Ashman,
who replaced starter Taylor McIntyre in the
sixth, got the win, improving to 2-0 on the season. McAtee was the
losing pitcher, falling to 0-2 on the season.
The Golden
Eagles return to action on Sunday afternoon. They wrap up their
three game series with UC-Davis at 1:00 p.m. at J.L. Johnson
Stadium.
