Tulsa, Okla.- Consistent offensive play by the Oral
Roberts University men's baseball team (8-3) helped the Golden
Eagles complete their weekend sweep of UC-Davis (8-8) with an 8-4
win over the Aggies on Sunday afternoon at J.L. Johnson
Stadium.
The Golden
Eagles started off strong in the first inning, shutting down the
visitors in the top of the inning and belting in one run in the
bottom off of a Tim
Torres double to give ORU an early 1-0 lead.
UC-Davis
responded in the top of the second, bringing home Michael Hernandez
off of an RBI single from Matt Dempsey to tie the game at 1-1.
Brian Aguilar and Travis DeBondt got
the Eagles off to a good start in the bottom of the second with a
single up the middle and a double to right field. Pat Warfle brought Aguilar
home with a single through the left side, putting the Eagles back
on top 2-1. A stolen base by Warfle put runners on second and
third, which set up an RBI single to the shortstop from Brendan Duffy,
scoring DeBondt and putting ORU up 3-1.
The Aggies kept
it close in the third, scoring a run in the top of the frame and
keeping the Eagles scoreless in the bottom. ORU started to pull
away in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs over four
innings.
Torres came
through again for the Golden Eagles, doubling to center field to
score Kelly
Minisalle in the bottom of the fifth. ORU notched another
run in the bottom of the sixth after Duffy brought in Debondt with
an RBI single to bring the score to 5-2.
In the bottom
of the seventh, DeBondt singled through the right side, scoring
Jake
Kahaulelio. Catcher Andy Bouchie hit a two-run
single through the left side in the eighth, bringing home teammates
Kahaulelio and Duffy, capping off the scoring for the day at
8-4.
Golden Eagles
pitcher Sean
Jarret was awarded with the win, advancing to a 2-0 record
on the year. Losing pitcher for the Aggies was Vince DeCoito, who
falls to 1-2.
ORU returns to
action on Tuesday when they host Missouri State at J.L Johnson
Stadium. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
