Eagles Complete Sweep of UC-Davis With 8-4 Win

Tulsa, Okla.- Consistent offensive play by the Oral Roberts University men's baseball team (8-3) helped the Golden Eagles complete their weekend sweep of UC-Davis (8-8) with an 8-4 win over the Aggies on Sunday afternoon at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

The Golden Eagles started off strong in the first inning, shutting down the visitors in the top of the inning and belting in one run in the bottom off of a Tim Torres double to give ORU an early 1-0 lead.

UC-Davis responded in the top of the second, bringing home Michael Hernandez off of an RBI single from Matt Dempsey to tie the game at 1-1.

Brian Aguilar and Travis DeBondt got the Eagles off to a good start in the bottom of the second with a single up the middle and a double to right field. Pat Warfle brought Aguilar home with a single through the left side, putting the Eagles back on top 2-1. A stolen base by Warfle put runners on second and third, which set up an RBI single to the shortstop from Brendan Duffy, scoring DeBondt and putting ORU up 3-1.

The Aggies kept it close in the third, scoring a run in the top of the frame and keeping the Eagles scoreless in the bottom. ORU started to pull away in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs over four innings.

Torres came through again for the Golden Eagles, doubling to center field to score Kelly Minisalle in the bottom of the fifth. ORU notched another run in the bottom of the sixth after Duffy brought in Debondt with an RBI single to bring the score to 5-2.

In the bottom of the seventh, DeBondt singled through the right side, scoring Jake Kahaulelio. Catcher Andy Bouchie hit a two-run single through the left side in the eighth, bringing home teammates Kahaulelio and Duffy, capping off the scoring for the day at 8-4.

Golden Eagles pitcher Sean Jarret was awarded with the win, advancing to a 2-0 record on the year. Losing pitcher for the Aggies was Vince DeCoito, who falls to 1-2.

ORU returns to action on Tuesday when they host Missouri State at J.L Johnson Stadium. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
