TULSA�€"Solid pitching and timely hitting helped lead
Oral Roberts University to a 6-1 victory over Bethune-Cookman,
Saturday at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
The Wildcats (14-19)
grabbed an early 1-0 lead. Joe Ortiz reached on a one-out error in
the third and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Alejandro
Jimenez.
ORU answered back in
the bottom of the fourth. Chad Rothford tied the game
with an RBI ground out, and Carter McQuigg's RBI single
two batters later gave ORU a 2-1 edge.
The Golden Eagles added
to the lead fifth. Travis DeBondt's two-out
double scored Kelly
Minissale and Tim Torres for a 4-1 lead,
and Rothford greeted reliever Concepcion Guzman with an RBI single
for a 5-1 lead.
Jake Kahaulelio led off the
seventh with a solo home run, his second of the season, making it a
6-1 ORU advantage.
Greenwalt (1-2) was
solid in his third start of the season. The senior right-hander
allowed on run (unearned) on three hits in 6.2 innings. He walked
three and struck out one for his first victory. Erik Crichton tossed 2.1
scoreless innings of relief for his first save.
Dustin Blackwell (2-6)
took the loss for B-CC, allowing five runs on six hits in 4.2
innings.
Minnisale, Kahaulelio
and DeBondt each collected two hits for the Golden Eagles. Rothford
and DeBondt accounted for 2 RBI apiece.
The Golden Eagles go
for the sweep on Sunday. Game time has been changed to
12 noon to accommodate Bethune-Cookman's travel plans.
