STILLWATER, Okla.�€"Chance Chapman tossed seven
strong innings and Andy Bouchie had four RBI
to lead Oral Roberts University to a 13-2 victory over No. 17
Oklahoma State, Tuesday at Reynolds Stadium.
The victory -- ORU's
21st in its last 24 games -- improves the Golden Eagles
to 31-14 overall. ORU is now 5-2 this season against Top 25 teams
and 5-0 vs. regional powers OSU, Arkansas and Wichita State.
The Golden Eagles
wasted no time in getting on the board, scoring four runs in the
top of the first. Jake
Kahaulelio and Bouchie ripped back-to-back one-out doubles
off OSU starter Charles Benoit (5-4) for a 2-0 lead.
After Chad Rothford struck out
for the second out, Kelly Minissale singled in
Bouchie for a 3-0 lead. Carter McQuigg followed
Minissale with a double to right-center field and ORU led 4-0.
The Golden Eagles
extended the lead to 7-0 in the top of the second when Bouchie
blasted a three-run homer �€" his 11th of
the season �€" into the netting in left field.
The Cowboys finally
touched Chapman for a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.
Chapman plunked Corey Brown with one and Keanon Simon reached on an
error by second baseman Kahaulelio. Big 12 RBI leader Tyler Mach
lined a double to left-center, scoring two and making it 7-2.
But Chapman (4-1)
settled down over the next four innings, allowing only a one-out
single by Brown in the fourth. He retired 14 of the final 15
batters he faced before giving way to the bullpen to start the
eighth.
ORU upped the lead with
a three-run eighth. Tim Torres and Rothford
laced RBI singles and Minissale smacked an RBI double as ORU
grabbed a 10-2 advantage.
The Golden Eagles put
it away in the top of the ninth. Brendan Duffy hit a two-run
triple and Rothford collected his second RBI single of the night
for a 13-2 lead.
ORU pounded out 15 hits
against 11 different Oklahoma State pitchers. Duffy
�€" who extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a
bunt single in the first �€" went 3-for-4 with three
runs and two RBI. Bouchie was 3-for-5 with four RBI and three runs.
Rothford, Minissale and McQuigg each had two hits.
Chapman allowed two
runs (one earned) on three hits, striking out three and walking
one. Eric
Crichton allowed one hit in a scoreless eighth inning and
Sean Jarrett
struck out a pair in a perfect ninth.
The Golden Eagles
return to action when they host Oakland, 2 p.m., Saturday in a
Mid-Continent Conference doubleheader at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
