University€™s baseball team dropped a 10-8
decision after TCU scored five runs with two outs in the bottom of
the eighth on Saturday afternoon at Lupton Stadium.
The
Golden Eagles (2-2) trailed early, 2-0, after the Horned Frogs
scored a run in each of the first two innings off of
ORU€™s starter Marcus Tackett
(Tulsa, Okla.).
ORU
came back and scored two runs in the third inning. Jake
Kahaulelio (Windsor, Calif.) knocked in the first run with
a single. The Golden Eagles scored the tying run when Kahaulelio
stole second forcing TCU€™s catcher to make a
play. Brendan Duffy (Glendale, Ariz.) stole home
after TCU€™s pitcher Chance Corgan misplayed the
catchers throw to second.
With
runners on the corner in the fifth, Kahaulelio doubled to left
field scoring Kelly Minissale (Murphy, Texas).
Brian Van Kirk (Southwest Ranches, Fla.) then
grounded out scoring Duffy. Stephen Pearson
(Petaluma, Calif.) singled in Kahaulelio for a 5-2 ORU lead.
With
the game knotted at 5-all, Carter McQuigg (Miami,
Okla.) led off the eighth inning with a solo home run for a 6-5 ORU
lead.
TCU
(5-1) rallied in the bottom half of the eighth, scoring five runs
off of reliever Erik Crichton (Seal Beach,
Calif.). With two outs and a runner on, Bryan Kervin hit a home run
over the right field fence. After a double and walk in consecutive
TCU at-bats, Austin Adams homered to left field for a 10-6 TCU
lead.
Van
Kirk and Chad Rothford (Fresno, Calif.) hit
back-to-back home runs but ORU€™s rally fell
short after pitch-hitter Andrew Wells (Broken
Arrow, Okla.) struck out to end the game.
TCU€™s Derek VerHagen earned the win and
Crichton was credited with the loss.
Tackett
threw five and a third allowing five earned runs on 10 hits.
ORU and
TCU conclude their series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Lupton
