FORT
WORTH, Texas €" Oral Roberts University jumped out to
a 3-0 lead in the first inning but TCU scored eight straight runs
and went on to defeat ORU, 8-4, on Sunday afternoon at Lupton
Stadium.
The
Golden Eagles (2-3) scored three runs in the first inning to take
the early lead. Brendan Duffy (Glendale, Ariz.)
and Jake Kahaulelio (Windsor, Calif.) each singled
to start the game. Brian Van Kirk (Southwest
Ranches, Fla.) then earned a free trip to first on a walk to load
the bases for ORU. Chad Rothford (Fresno, Calif.)
also walked scoring Duffy for a 1-0 lead. ORU scored two more runs
when Kelly Minissale (Murphy, Texas) reached on a
fielder€™s choice to score Kahaulelio and Van
Kirk after a throwing error by TCU€™s second
basemen.
The
Horned Frogs (6-1) scored a run in each of the next two innings off
of ORU€™s starter Michael
Jarman (Stigler, Okla.). TCU took their first lead of the
game in the bottom of the fourth scoring two runs for a 4-3
lead.
Jarman
lasted 3.1 innings allowing four runs with three of the runs
earned. The junior left-hander gave up five hits and struck out
three.
TCU
tacked on four unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend
their lead to 8-3.
A
single by Carter McQuigg (Miami, Okla.) with one
out in the top of the seventh ended a streak of 22 at-bats without
a base hit by the Golden Eagles. With McQuigg on second,
Pat Warfle (Melbourne, Fla.) hit a line shot just
over the glove of TCU€™s second baseman scoring
McQuigg.
ORU had
three errors in the game and only three of the eight runs counted
as earned runs. Jerry Sullivan (Budd Lake, N.J.),
Carlos Luna (Bakersfield, Calif.), and
Dale Reneau (Oklahoma City, Okla.) all saw action
out of the bullpen.
The
Golden Eagles return to action this Friday playing a three-game set
with Baylor. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. at Baylor Ballpark in
Waco, Texas.
