WACO,
Texas €" Oral Roberts University€™s
baseball team dropped their second consecutive decision in as many
days to Baylor, 12-7, on a wind-blown Saturday afternoon at Baylor
Ballpark.
Baylor
(7-3) scored four runs in the bottom of the second off of
ORU€™s starter Marcus Tackett
(Tulsa, Okla.) to open up a 4-0 lead. The Golden Eagles (2-5)
countered with three runs in the top half of the third.
With
the bases loaded in the third, Tyler Warmerdam
(Lodi, Calif.) cleared the bases with a double to right field to
cut Baylor€™s lead to 4-3.
Baylor
tacked on three more runs over the next three innings for a 7-3
lead over ORU. Again the Golden Eagles rallied with three runs of
their own in the top of the sixth.
ORU
opened the sixth with three straight singles by Pat
Warfle (Melbourne, Fla.), Brendan Duffy
(Glendale, Ariz.), and Jake Kahaulelio (Windsor,
Calif.). Kahaulelio€™s single to center field
scored Warfle and advanced Duffy to third base. Brian Van
Kirk (Southwest Ranches, Fla.) hit a sacrifice fly to left
field scoring Duffy. The Golden Eagles added their third run of the
inning on a Carter McQuigg (Miami, Okla.)
sacrifice fly.
But ORU
could not silence the Bears€™ bats as Baylor
tallied a run in the bottom of the sixth and then added three in
the eighth.
Kelly Minissale (Murphy, Texas) scored the seventh
run for the Golden Eagles when Duffy hit into a fielders choice,
scoring Minissale.
ORU€™s starter Tackett threw four innings,
allowing six runs on six hits. Tackett was replaced by
Jeremy Hefner (Perkins, Okla.). Hefner, in his
first appearance of the season, allowed six runs on six hits in 3.2
innings of work.
Overall, ORU lost their fifth straight game since opening the
season with two wins. Meanwhile, Baylor won their sixth straight
decision.
ORU
will try to avoid the sweep as the two teams conclude the series
tomorrow in Waco. First pitch is slated for 1:30 p.m. at Baylor
Ballpark.
