Jarman Strikes Out 14 as ORU Defeats Baylor, 4-2

WACO, Texas €" Michael Jarman (Stigler, Okla.) fanned 14 Baylor batters as Oral Roberts University defeated Baylor, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark. With the win, ORU snaps their five game losing streak.

ORU (3-5) gave Jarman an early lead with two runs in the top of the second inning. Brian Van Kirk (Southwest Ranches, Fla.) and Jake Kahaulelio (Windsor, Calif.) led off with singles. After Stephen Pearson (Petaluma, Calif.) struck out, Tyler Warmerdam (Lodi, Calif.) singled to right center scoring Van Kirk and advancing Kahaulelio to third base. Catcher David Genao (Newark, N.J.) plated Kahaulelio with a sacrifice fly to left field.

The Bears (7-4) loaded the bases in the bottom half of the second and cut ORU€™s lead in half, 2-1, when Drew Bias walked to score Aaron Miller.

For the next six innings, Baylor could not get their bats going against Jarman. Jarman only allowed five base runners and had a stretch where the lefthander struck out seven of 10 batters.

The Golden Eagles stretched their lead to 3-1 in the top of the fourth when Pat Warfle (Melbourne, Fla.) singled through the left side to score Warmerdam.

In the ninth inning, ORU tacked on another run. Warfle was hit by a pitch by Baylor€™s Nick Cassavechia and then stole second. Warfle scored ORU€™s fourth run of the day when Brendan Duffy (Glendale, Ariz.) singled to center.

Baylor scored a run in the bottom of the ninth to make it a 4-2 ballgame, but could not get any closer as Chance Chapman (Paso Robles, Calif.) and Erik Crichton (Seal Beach, Calif.) closed the game for the Golden Eagles in the ninth. Crichton earned his first save of the year.

Jarman improved to 1-1 after allowing one run on four hits in 8.0 innings of work. The junior broke a Baylor Ballpark record of 14 strikeouts. The previous record of 12 was held by Baylor's Steven White (2003), Baylor's Mark McCormick (2005), and Nebraska's Joba Chamberlain (2006).

ORU returns to action this Tuesday against 2006 Big 12 Tournamant Champion Kansas at J.L. Johnson Stadium. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
