Okla. �€" Jeremy Hefner (Stigler,
Okla.) pitched seven scoreless innings while only allowing one hit
as Oral Roberts University�€™s baseball team
rolled to a 12-0 defeat of Penn State University, on Thursday
afternoon at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
Hefner,
a junior righthander, struck out seven and only allowed a double by
PSU�€™s Mike Deese in the second inning to
improve to 3-0 on the year.
ORU
(8-9) scored six runs in the second inning off
PSU�€™s starter Ryan Stobart. Chad
Rothford (Fresno, Calif.) led off the inning with a double
down the left field line. Jake Kahaulelio
(Windsor, Calif.) plated Rothford with a double of his own.
Carter McQuigg (Miami, Okla.) followed Kahaulelio
with a two-run home run to center field for his team-leading fifth
home run.
Kelly Minissale (Murphy, Texas) singled in
Adam Younger (Cape Coral, Fla.) and Brian
Van Kirk (Southwest Ranches, Fla.) knocked in two with a
double as ORU led 6-0 after two innings.
The
Golden Eagles stretched their lead to 9-0 over Penn State (2-10) in
the third inning. Mcquigg singled to score Stephen
Pearson (Petaluma, Calif.) for the first run of the
inning. Younger and Pat Warfle (Melbourne, Fla.)
plated the other two runs in ORU�€™s three-run
third inning.
ORU
tallied three more runs in the fifth to go up, 12-0. Younger
brought in a run after grounding out and then Warfle hit a two-run
home to center field.
Dale Reneau (Oklahoma City, Okla.) finished the
game from the mound for the Golden Eagles, allowing two hits while
fanning four batters in 2.0 innings of work.
Warfle
and McQuigg led the Golden Eagle attack with three RBI each and
Younger had two RBI. Kahaulelio went 2-for-3 and scored three
runs.
Penn
State used five different pitchers in the loss.
ORU and
Penn State return to play the middle game of the three-game set
tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
