TULSA,
Okla. �€" Chris Ashman (Hemet, Calif.)
and Chance Chapman (Paso Robles, Calif.) had solid
performances from the mound and Adam Younger (Cape
Coral, Fla.) drove in the winning run as Oral Roberts University
defeated Bethune-Cookman, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at J.L. Johnson
Stadium.
Younger
drove in Pat Warfle (Melbourne, Fla.) in the
seventh inning on a single to left field giving ORU (14-12) a 3-2
lead. Ashman improved to 2-3 on the year with the win as the senior
righthander struck out three while scattering seven hits and
allowing two earned runs in 7.2 innings of work.
ORU
took an early 1-0 lead in their first at-bat. Lead-off hitter
Brendan Duffy (Glendale, Ariz.) walked and
advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kelly
Minissale (Murphy, Texas). Duffy stole third and then was
plated on a Jake Kahaulelio (Windsor, Calif.)
sacrifice fly.
The
Wildcats would score a run in the fourth inning to knot the score
at 1-1. Angel Negron scored after Neil Jones reached on a
fielder�€™s choice.
Chad Rothford (Fresno, Calif.) led off the fourth
inning with a solo home run to left field to put the Golden Eagles
back on top, 2-1. It was Rothford�€™s
team-leading seventh home run this season.
The
lead would not last long for the Golden Eagles though as
Bethune-Cookman scored a run in the top of the fifth.
Younger�€™s heroics came in the seventh inning.
Warfle led-off the inning by reaching base after being hit by
BCC�€™s Hiram Burgos. David
Genao (Neward, N.J.) advanced Warfle into scoring position
on a sacrifice bunt. Younger followed Genao with a single to center
field to score Warfle.
Chapman
relieved Ashman in the eighth and retired the final out with
Bethune-Cookman having runners at the corners. The righthander
struck out two Wildcats in the ninth and forced Orlando Bacon to
ground out to seal the game to earn his fourth save.
Younger
continued to lead the Golden Eagle attack going 2-for-3. The junior
went 6-for-9 (.667) with one home run, one double, and three RBI in
the series.
Van
Kirk also went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk as ORU improved to
12-1 at J.L. Johnson Stadium this year.
ORU
returns to action on Tuesday hosting regional power Wichita State
at 7:06 p.m. at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
