ORU Wins Series Finale over Bethune-Cookman, 3-2

TULSA, Okla. €" Chris Ashman (Hemet, Calif.) and Chance Chapman (Paso Robles, Calif.) had solid performances from the mound and Adam Younger (Cape Coral, Fla.) drove in the winning run as Oral Roberts University defeated Bethune-Cookman, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

Younger drove in Pat Warfle (Melbourne, Fla.) in the seventh inning on a single to left field giving ORU (14-12) a 3-2 lead. Ashman improved to 2-3 on the year with the win as the senior righthander struck out three while scattering seven hits and allowing two earned runs in 7.2 innings of work.

ORU took an early 1-0 lead in their first at-bat. Lead-off hitter Brendan Duffy (Glendale, Ariz.) walked and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kelly Minissale (Murphy, Texas). Duffy stole third and then was plated on a Jake Kahaulelio (Windsor, Calif.) sacrifice fly.

The Wildcats would score a run in the fourth inning to knot the score at 1-1. Angel Negron scored after Neil Jones reached on a fielder€™s choice.

Chad Rothford (Fresno, Calif.) led off the fourth inning with a solo home run to left field to put the Golden Eagles back on top, 2-1. It was Rothford€™s team-leading seventh home run this season.

The lead would not last long for the Golden Eagles though as Bethune-Cookman scored a run in the top of the fifth.

Younger€™s heroics came in the seventh inning. Warfle led-off the inning by reaching base after being hit by BCC€™s Hiram Burgos. David Genao (Neward, N.J.) advanced Warfle into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt. Younger followed Genao with a single to center field to score Warfle.

Chapman relieved Ashman in the eighth and retired the final out with Bethune-Cookman having runners at the corners. The righthander struck out two Wildcats in the ninth and forced Orlando Bacon to ground out to seal the game to earn his fourth save.

Younger continued to lead the Golden Eagle attack going 2-for-3. The junior went 6-for-9 (.667) with one home run, one double, and three RBI in the series.

Van Kirk also went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk as ORU improved to 12-1 at J.L. Johnson Stadium this year.

ORU returns to action on Tuesday hosting regional power Wichita State at 7:06 p.m. at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
