TULSA,
Okla. €" David Genao (Newark, N.J.)
hit a game-winning two-run home run in the eighth inning as Oral
Roberts University rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Centenary,
3-2, on Senior Day at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
ORU won
its ninth straight decision, improving to 33-15 overall and 15-1 in
Mid-Continent Conference action. Centenary fell to 23-28 overall
and 6-10 in league play.
Starter
Chris Ashman (Hemet, Calif.) kept the Golden
Eagles in the ball game with a solid pitching effort. Ashman only
allowed a two-run home run by CC€™s Matt Webb in
the fifth inning in 6.0 innings of work.
The
senior forced the Gents to ground into five double plays, tying the
ORU record of five on May 1, 1988 against Missouri.
With
ORU trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the eighth, Genao hit his first
home run of the year. The inning started with Brian Van
Kirk (Southwest Ranches, Fla.) reaching base on an error
by CC€™s Garrett Derooy. After a fly out by
Carter McQuigg (Miami, Okla.), Genao blasted a
home run off CC€™s Dakota Robinson (2-4) over
the left field wall on a 1-2 count.
Erik Crichton (Seal Beach, Calif.) worked the
final 1.2 innings without surrendering a run to get credit for the
win, improving his record to 3-4.
ORU
took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI single by
Brendan Duffy (Glendale, Ariz.).
Duffy€™s single plated McQuigg, who started the
inning with a single. The Golden Eagles tried to push across one
more run in the second but Adam Younger (Cape
Coral, Fla.) was tagged out at home after a single by Jake
Kahaulelio (Windsor, Calif.).
Webb
put the Gents ahead in the fifth with a two-run home run, scoring
Justin Darr for the 2-1 lead.
Marcus Tackett (Tulsa, Okla.) relieved Ashman for
the seventh striking out two Gents while not allowing a base runner
in 1.1 innings of action.
Duffy
and Kahaulelio each finished the day 2-for-4 as ORU pounded out
eight total hits.
ORU
travels to Macomb, Ill. to play their final regular season series,
starting on Thursday at 12 p.m.
