TULSA - With a tie ball game in the bottom of the sixth, Oral
Roberts University scored four runs to out last Le Moyne, 10-6, on
Saturday afternoon at J.L. Johnson Stadium
With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 6-0 for the first time
since the 1989 season when ORU began that season 7-0. Le Moyne fell
to 2-4 with the loss.
For the first time in the series, ORU claimed an early 1-0 lead in
the second frame. With two outs already in the inning, Juan
Martinez hit a double to the gap in right center, allowing Ryan
Groth to score the game's first run.
Le Moyne came right back to tie the game at 1-all in their next
at-bat. Chris Haynes hit a double off starter Mark
Serrano, scoring Sean Paino.
The Dolphins went ahead 3-1 for the first time in the fourth inning
on a Corey O'Neill two-run home run over the fence in
left-center.
However, the lead was short lived for Le Moyne as ORU pushed across
five runs in the fourth for a 6-3 advantage. Martinez knocked in
the first two runs with a double then Kelly
Minissale plated two more with a single to center field. Kyle
Price scored the fifth run of the inning off a wild pitch by Le
Moyne's Luke Nellis.
Le Moyne tabbed a single run in the fourth and scored two more in
the top of the sixth in rallying to tie the score at 6-6.
The Golden Eagles answered in the home side of the sixth by taking
advantage of a fielding error by Le Moyne's Alejandro Del Valle.
With two outs and the bases loaded, Ben
Petralli hit a ground ball right to Del Valle, but Del Valle
let the ball go under his glove and into the outfield. Three runs
scored off the costly mistake by Del Valle as ORU grabbed a 9-6
lead and never looked back.
Brian Van Kirk followed by knocking in Petralli
with a single to left field as the Golden Eagles led 10-6.
Le Moyne's TJ Sheridan (1-1) was credited with the loss by giving
up six runs, five earned, in 3.1 innings of work.
Carlos Luna (1-0) earned his first win of the
season by not allowing a run in four innings of relief. The
Bakersfield, Calif. Native struck out six while only allowing four
hits.
The Golden Eagles recorded their third double-digit hit total of
the season by pounding out 10 hits.
ORU and Le Moyne wrap up their three-game set tomorrow at 11:30
