TULSA
- Pat Murray slugged a three-run home run on an 0-2
count in the bottom of the eighth as Oral Roberts University
rallied from a 4-1 deficit to defeat Dallas Baptist, 5-4, Saturday
afternoon at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
With the win, the Golden Eagles claimed the three-game series and
improved to 13-5 while the Patriots fell to 12-7 on the year.
With ORU trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the eighth, the Golden
Eagles punched in four runs off relievers Wayne Dowling and Tyson
Bagley.
Brian Van Kirk kicked off the rally with a
lead-off solo home run off Dowling, his second home run of the
year. After Ryan Groth and Ben
Petralli grounded out, Bagley relieved Dowling and allowed
back-to-back walks to David Genao and Michael
Notaro. Pat Murray then pinch-hit for Kyle
Price and belted a 0-2 pitch over the left field fence for the
eventual game-winner. It was Murray's first home run of the season
and could not have come at a better time.
T.J. Kelly relieved Carlos
Luna to work the ninth and closed out the game for the Golden
Eagles to collect his fourth save of the year.
DBU grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the fourth, but ORU cut the
deficit in half when Ryan Groth hit a sacrifice fly to score Kelly
Minissale.
The Patriots took advantage of a throwing error by third basemen
Genao in the sixth by scoring two unearned runs off Michael
Jarman to extend their lead to 4-1.
Jarman started the game for the Golden Eagles and allowed two
earned runs while striking out three in six innings of work.
DBU's Jordan Meaker limited ORU to one run, none earned, in seven
innings pitched.
Bagley (1-1) was credited with the loss while Luna improved to 4-0
with the win.
ORU travels to Austin, Texas on Sunday to battle perennial power
Texas on Monday at 6:05 p.m. Live audio and live stats will be
