TULSA --
Kelly Minissale struck out a career-high eight
batters in a complete-game effort as Oral Roberts University swept
the season series from Arkansas, defeating the Razorbacks 12-2 on
Tuesday night at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
The Golden Eagles improved to 25-8 on the year with the win while
Arkansas fell to 19-16.
Ben Petralli extended his hitting streak to 10
games with a 1-for-2 effort and three RBI while Ryan
Groth knocked in three runs as well. Brian Van
Kirk went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and three runs
scored.
Arkansas threatened in the first with runners on second and third
and one out, but Minissale (1-1) was able to get the Golden Eagles
out of the inning without any damage.
The Golden Eagles grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the
first inning, all with two outs. Van Kirk lined a double down the
field line to score Petralli for ORU's first run. Groth followed
with a double of his own to plate Van Kirk then David
Genao drove in Groth on an RBI single to the gap in right
center.
ORU plated two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend their
lead to 5-0. The Golden Eagles were able to load the bases off
Arkansas' Kendall Korbal (0-5). Petralli plated the two runs by
continuing to swing a hot bat with a two-run single to left
field.
The Golden Eagles had a big inning in the sixth, sending 10
batters to plate and plating six runs to take a 11-0 advantage. Brendan
Duffy and Minissale had back-to-back bases loaded walks to
score the first two runs. Petralli added an RBI sacrifice fly and
then Duffy scored on a wild pitch by Arkansas' Chad Pierce. Groth
capped off the scoring for the home team with a two-run double down
the left field line.
Arkansas finally got on the board off Minissale in the top of the
seventh on an RBI groundout by Jacob House.
Brian Van Kirk slugged his team-leading eighth
home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth off Arkansas
reliever Evan Cox as ORU led 12-1.
Minissale set new career-highs with nine innings pitched and eight
strike outs while scattering nine hits in a winning effort.
Korbal threw a season-high 4.1 innings, allowing six hits and five
runs while taking the loss for the Razorbacks.
The Golden Eagles reached base on seven walks compared to one walk
from Arkansas.
Duffy scored two runs for ORU but snapped his season-long 16-game
hitting streak by going 0-for-3.
ORU returns to Summit League action this weekend with a four-game
set against Western Illinois at J.L. Johnson Stadium. First pitch
