WACO,
Texas-Baylor swept a doubleheader from Oral Roberts on Saturday,
winning the opener 14-2, and taking the nightcap 7-6, at Baylor
Ballpark.
In game one,
Baylor (6-6) scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning
against ORU starter Mikey Torrence (0-1). Greg Glime blasted a
three-run home run to highlight the scoring for the Bears.
Baylor added
single runs in the second and fourth for a 7-0 lead before ORU
(2-6) got on the board in the top of the fifth when a 2-run single
by Chris Elder made it 7-2.
The Bears
broke it open with six runs in the bottom of the sixth. Chris
Slater highlighted the scoring with a 3-run homer as Baylor took a
14-2 lead.
In game two
the Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on
Raynor Campbell's 2-run homer.
But the
Golden Eagles came right back to tie the game in the top of the
second. An RBI double by Brett Burch and a sacrifice fly by Robert
Barbosa knotted the score at 2-2.
Baylor
scratched across a run in the bottom of the third on a Campbell
sacrifice fly, but ORU came right back with a pair of runs in the
top of the fourth. Joey Winecki knocked in both runs with a one-out
double as ORU gained a 4-3 lead, though it didn't last long.
The Bears
picked up RBI base hits by Brooks Pinckard and Campbell in the
bottom of the fifth for a 5-4 lead, and Baylor added two more runs
in the sixth for a 7-4 lead.
ORU closed
to within 7-5 when a run scored on a double play in the seventh and
P.J. Sequeira made it 7-6 with a two-out RBI single in the top of
the ninth but Seth Furmanek struck out to end the game.
The Golden
Eagles collected 11 hits in game two. Colby Price led the way with
a 3-for-5 effort, while Winiecki and Tyler Saladino each had two
hits.
Spencer
Roberts (0-2) suffered the game two loss for ORU, allowing three
runs in 3.1 innings of work.
The Bears
and Golden Eagles conclude their three-game series Sunday at 1
p.m.
