TULSA - Oral Roberts relied on strong pitching to top Oakland by a
score of 5-2 in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday night
at J.L. Johnson Stadium. The Golden Eagles managed just four hits
while holding the Golden Grizzlies to seven hits in the
seven-inning contest.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the
first inning. Four Golden Eagles drew consecutive walks to bring in
the first run, while an error and a groundout plated two more.
ORU increased its lead to 5-0 in the following inning when Tyler
Saladino tripled to left center to drive in
Joey Winiecki and Nick
Baligod.
The Golden Grizzlies got on the board in the top of the third
inning when Ryan Waldhart hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Tim Ryan.
Oakland added its second run two innings later when Waldhart
slapped a groundout to drive in Ryan, who reached first on a walk
and advanced to third on a wild pitch and passed ball.
Jeff Burleson turned in a
stellar performance, allowing five hits and two runs in 5.0 innings
with seven strikeouts and three walks. Sean
Johnson picked up the save by inducing a groundout with the
tying run at the plate to end the threat.
The Golden Eagles wrap up the four-game series with the Golden
Grizzlies at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
