TEMPE,
Ariz.-Ninth-ranked Arizona State received a complete game effort
from Kramer Champlin inhanding Oral Roberts a 5-1 setback, Friday
at Packard Stadium.
Champlin
(3-0) scattered six hits while striking out eight batters with four
walks to lead Arizona State (14-3) to victory.
Arizona
State took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, thanks in part to
an ORU (7-6) error. With two outs and Austin Barnes at first,
second baseman Spencer
Barnett misplayed a base hit by Joey DeMichelle, allowing
Barnes to reach third. Barnes later scored on a double by Andrew
Alpin to give the Sun Devils the lead.
The Sun
Devils broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning. Johnny
Ruettiger laced a two-run single. Riccio Torrez knocked in a run
with a single of his own and another run scored on an error by
catcher Bennett
Pickar as ASU went up 5-0.
ORU scored
its only run in the ninth inning on an RBI groundout by T.J.
Bennett for the final 5-1 margin.
Relievers Alec
Smith and Joe
Spring combined to keep the Sun Devils off the board over the
final five innings, but it wasn't enough.
The Golden
Eagles managed just six hits, with two apiece for Chris
Elder and Cam
Schiller
Freshman Alex
Gonzalez (2-2) suffered the loss for ORU, allowing five runs on
eight hits and four walks in three-plus innings.
