MEMPHIS,
Tenn.-Three Southern Illinois pitchers limited Oral Roberts to a
pair of runs and six hits in a 9-2 defeat at the Memphis Classic,
Saturday at FedEx Park.
The Golden
Eagles (3-5) took an early 1-0 lead in the third. Nick
Baligod roped a two-out single, stole second base and later
scored on Chris
Elder's single through the left side.
But the lead
didn't last as the wheels came off for starting pitcher Alex
Gonzalez (1-1) in the bottom of the fourth. The Salukis sent 11
batters to the plate, collected seven hits and scored six runs for
a 6-1 lead.
Cam
Schiller's sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh pulled ORU
within 6-2, but the Salukis scored three runs in the bottom the
eighth for a 9-2 lead.
Gonzalez
suffered the loss for ORU, allowing six runs (all earned) on eight
hits with five walks and five strikeouts. Cameron Maldonado picked
up the win for the Salukis, allowing one run and five hits in five
innings.
The Golden
Eagles conclude Classis play when they face Eastern Kentucky, 12
noon Sunday.
