Golden Eagles Complete Sweep of Centenary, 3-1

TULSA-Four pitchers combined on a four-hitter as Oral Roberts finished off a Summit League series sweep of Centenary with a 3-1 victory, Sunday at J.L. Johnson Stadium. The victory gives ORU a season-best six-game winning streak.

Starting pitcher Joe Spring (2-0) and relievers Sean Johnson, Lars Liguori and Matt Rush held the Gents (3-17, 0-4) in check, keeping Centenary to just one hit in the final three innings. ORU's offense collected 10 hits, but the Golden Eagles (15-11, 4-0) struggled again with runners in scoring position, leaving 10 on base.

Spring and Centenary starter Nic Parrott (0-1) put up zeros over the first three innings before ORU finally broke through with a run in the fourth. Chris Elder doubled with one and out moved to second on a long fly out to right field by Brandon King. Elder came around to score on a single by T.J. Bennett as ORU grabbed a 1-0 lead.

Centenary tied the game in the top of the sixth on an RBI double by Kyle Morton, but ORU came back with a run in the bottom of the inning. Nick Baligod led off with a double and came around to score on a single by King as ORU regained the lead at 2-1.

ORU added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth. Bennett led off with a double and scored on Brett Sowers' single up the middle as the Golden Eagles went up 3-1.

Johnson, Liguori and Rush finished off the Gents. The trio combined to allow one hit and one walk over the final three innings. Rush retired the final two batters for his fifth save of the season.

Elder, Bennett and Sowers each collected two hits for ORU. Morton had a pair of hits - both doubles - for Centenary.

The Golden Eagles return to action when they open a four-game Summit League series at Western Illinois, 3 p.m., Friday in Macomb, Ill.
