TULSA-Former
Oral Roberts All-American Steve Holm returned to the Major Leagues
on Friday when his contract was purchased by the Minnesota
Twins.
Holm, who
played at ORU during the 2000 and 2001 seasons, was called up after
the Twins placed All-Star catcher Joe Mauer on the 15-day disabled
list. Holm had been playing with the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings,
batting .250 (2-for-8) with one RBI in four games.
This is
Holm's third stint in the big leagues. He played in 53 games with
the San Francisco Giants during the 2008 and 2009 seasons. He owns
a .264 (24-for-91) career MLB average with one home run and six
RBI.
Holm was a
17th-round draft pick by San Francisco in 2001. In 2000, Holm was
named Mid-Continent Conference Newcomer and Player of the Year,
All-Tournament Team and first-team all-conference. Holm earned
first-team honors again after the 2001 season before being drafted
by the Giants.
