ROCHESTER,
Mich.--Nick
Baligod homered twice and knocked in three runs to lead Oral
Roberts to a 7-5 Summit League win over Oakland, Friday at OU
Baseball Field.
The game
began almost two hours late due to rain showers and thunderstorms
in the area, but the Golden Eagles (23-17 overall, 12-5 Summit)
wasted little time in going to work offensively.
Baligod
started the scoring for ORU, belting a two-run home run in the top
of the third to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead. Brandon
King walked two batters later and scored when Chris
Elder followed with a double to right field, making it 3-0.
Jared
Schlehuber, playing in his first game since suffering left
shoulder injury against Wichita State on Feb. 22, belted a solo
home run leading of the fourth inning to make it 4-0.
Baligod
knocked his second homer - a one-out solo shot in the seventh - to
make it 5-0, and King followed two batters later with an RBI double
that scored Joey
Winiecki for a 6-0 advantage.
Oakland
fought back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh. D.J.
Jarrad knocked in both runs with a single to pull the Golden
Grizzlies within 6-2.
The Golden
Eagles tacked on an insurance run in the top of the ninth. King led
off with a single and moved to second on a throwing error by the
shortstop. A fly ball to deep left field by Elder moved King to
third, and he scored on Cam
Schiller's single to make it 7-2.
Oakland made
it interesting in the ninth, scoring three runs, including a pair
when Jarrad connected for a two-run homer. The Golden Grizzlies
brought the winning run to the plate with two outs, but Joe
Spring struck out Nick Jacoby on three pitches to end the game
and earn his first save of the season.
Sophomore
right-hander Drew
Bowen (3-2) picked up the win for ORU, allowing a pair of runs
and four hits in 6.1 innnings.
Oakland's
Mark Leichtmann (2-4) took the loss after allowing six runs on nine
hits over 6.1 innings.
ORU and
Oakland resume their four game series with an 11 a.m., Saturday,
doubleheader.
