ROCHESTER,
Mich.-Oral Roberts banged out 26 hits and scored 21 runs in
sweeping a Summit League doubleheader from Oakland, Saturday at OU
Baseball Field. The Golden Eagles won by scores of 15-2 and
6-2.
In game one,
Oakland gained an early lead when Ryan Waldhart doubled home Aaron
Wick for a 1-0 lead.
But the lead
was short-lived for the Golden Grizzlies. ORU tied it in the third
on a solo home run by T.J.
Bennett, and Brandon
King's solo home run leading off the fourth inning gave the
Golden Eagles the lead for good at 2-1.
ORU used
some two-out magic to extend its lead in the fifth. Consecutive
two-out, RBI-doubles by Joey
Winiecki, King and Chris
Elder gave the Golden Eagles a 5-1 lead.
Oakland got
a run back in the bottom of the inning on a solo home run by
Waldhart, but Brett
Burch's two-run home run in the sixth gave ORU a 7-2 lead.
The Golden
Eagles put the game away by scoring eight runs in the top of the
ninth, highlighted by Cam
Schiller's three-run home run.
Sean
Johnson (4-2) picked up the win for ORU by tossing five solid
innings, allowing two runs on five hits. Dan
Martony tossed four shutout innings of relief in support of
Johnson, earning his first career save and lowering his season ERA
to 1.80.
The Golden
Eagles banged out 14 hits, including four hits by Winikeci and
three for King. Winiecki finished 4-for-6 with two runs and two
RBI, while King was 3-for-5 with four RBI and three runs.
In game two,
Alex
Gonzalez (6-5) tossed a complete game and the ORU offense kept
on clicking.
The Golden
Eagles again wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard, scoring a
pair of runs in the first inning. King belted his second solo home
run of the day, and Schiller laced an RBI single for a 2-0
lead.
ORU added
single runs in the second and third. King knocked in another run
with a sacrifice fly in the second, and Bennett
Pickar had an RBI single in the third as the Golden Eagles took
a 4-0 lead.
Oakland got
on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Wick's RBI single
made it 4-1. The Golden Eagles got the run back in the fifth when
Winiecki scored on a two-out wild pitch for a 5-1 lead.
After
Oakland cut the lead to 5-2 with a run in the bottom of the
seventh, ORU tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh
on a two-out RBI single by Winiecki.
Gonzalez
allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out
eight batters.
Baligod,
Winiecki and Schiller each had two hits in the second game, while
King knocked in a pair of runs.
The Golden
Eagles go for the series sweep when they meet up with the Golden
Grizzlies one last time, 12 noon, Sunday.
