Tulsa, Okla.- The Golden
Eagles (0-3) will take on Wichita State (0-3) in their home opener
today at 3 p.m. The game will kick off a nine game homestand, which
includes a three game series against Eastern Michigan (Feb. 24-26),
one game against Central Arkansas (Feb. 28), and Three games
against Alcorn State (March 2-4).
ORU is returning from an opening weekend
in Waco, Texas where they lost three straight to the Baylor Bears.
The Golden Eagles will look to get in the win column against the
Shockers. Under Rob
Walton, ORU is 13-5 all-time against Wichita State, including
an 8-7 win in their last meeting on May 10, 2011.
The last time Wichita State visited Tulsa
on February 22, 2011, the No.23 Shockers came away with a 7-2
victory.
Wichita State was ranked No.37 by
Collegiate Baseball and was selected to finish third in
the Missouri Valley this season. WSU returns six starters from the
2011 team that finished 39-26.
The Shockers are coached by Gene
Stephenson, one of the winningest coaches in college baseball
history. In 34 years, Stephenson has compiled 1,763 victories,
which is third all-time.
