Box Score
Tulsa, Okla -
The Golden Eagles got their first win of the 2012 season with a
11-6 drubbing of Eastern Michigan.
Eastern Michigan jumped out to an early
2-0 lead, but a 10-run third-inning was all ORU would need to
cruise to victory.
ORU was led by newcomer shortstop Nate
Goro, who went 3-5 with four RBI. Jared
Schlehuber hit his second home run of the season, driving in
three runs, along with Cam
Schiller, who hit his first home run of the season.
Drew
Bowen (1-0) got hit early in the first inning, giving up two
runs before settling down and pitching five innings with five
strikeouts and earning the win.
Eastern Michigan (0-3) had good
production from the top of their lineup, but couldn't get the
pitching to match as they dropped game one of the three-game
series. Bo Kinder led the Eagles, going 3-5 with four RBI. Ben
Magsig batted 1-3 with two walks and a two-run home run, his first
of the season.
Starter Joe Battistelli (0-1) lasted just
2.1 innings, giving up six runs on six hits. Tyler Vavra, who came
on in relief of Battistelli, lasted just one-third of an inning,
giving up four earned runs.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first,
the Golden Eagles would rally in the third-inning when Goro singled
home Bennett
Pickar, followed by the three-run blast by Schlehuber to give
ORU the 4-2 lead. Schiller got his two-run home run just two
batters later to give ORU a 6-2 lead. Pickar, who led off the
inning, singled home Jose
Trevino to make it 7-2 with one out.
Goro capped the 10-run inning with a
three-run triple that scored Pickar, Kevin
Cho, and Austen
Colt.
Eastern Michigan chipped away at the
lead, scoring two in the fourth and two more again in the sixth to
make it 10-6. But the ORU bullpen, which has struggled early in the
season, would slam the door shut on the Eagles. Joe
Spring, Lars
Liguori and Matt Rush combined for four innings of relief,
allowing just four hits and no runs.
ORU scored its final run when Schiller
knocked home Goro with a single in the sixth to make it 11-6.
Rush struck out the side in the ninth to
end the game.
The series resumes tomorrow at 2 p.m.
