Box Score
Tulsa, Okla - Mike
Torrence had a breakthrough performance on the mound for the
Golden Eagles (3-5) as they defeat Central Arkansas, 3-1.
Torrence (1-1) pitched six and one-third
innings, allowing just three hits and one run while striking out
seven batters on the day.
The Golden Eagles offense managed just
seven hits in the game, but it was enough to seal the win as the
pitching led the way for ORU. Bennett
Pickar led all batters with two hits and one RBI. Jared
Schlehuber was the only other Golden Eagle with multiple
hits.
Central Arkansas (3-4) could only scrape
together four hits in support of starter Bryce Biggerstaff (0-1)
who pitched five and two-thirds innings with seven hits and two
earned runs. First-baseman Bryan Willson was 1-3 and accounted for
the Bears only RBI.
The Bears jumped out to an early 1-0 lead
when Willson's two-out single to right field brought home Forrest
Allday. Willson was picked off on the next play to end the
inning.
That was the last time the Bears would
score, and ORU tied the game 1-1 in the third-inning when a
sacrifice fly by Cam
Schiller scored Nate
Goro.
ORU took the lead for good when Kevin
Cho hit a perfect sacrifice bunt down the first base line to
score Schiller. Pickar added an insurance run later in the inning
with a single to right field that scored Brandon
Healy.
Joe
Spring, who relieved Torrence in the seventh-inning, gave up
the only other hit by Central Arkansas, as he pitched one and
one-third scoreless innings. Matt Rush came on the close the ninth
for ORU. Rush recorded his tenth career save and first of the
season.
ORU finishes up the eight-game homestand
with a three-game series against Alcorn State starting Friday,
March 2 at 3 p.m.
