Tuscaloosa, Ala.- a late ninth-inning
rally came up short for the Golden Eagles (6-7), as they fall to
East Carolina 4-2 in game two of the Alabama Classic.

Schiller led ORU offensively with his sixth home run of the
season. Schiller has driven in four of the Golden Eagles five runs
at the Alabama Classic, and his six home runs are now tied for
third in the nation.
Drew
Bowen (2-1) pitched well to start the game, but gave up three
runs in the sixth-inning to put the Pirates in front for good.
Bowen threw 6.0 Innings with three earned runs and three
strikeouts.
East Carolina (10-3) has one of the
nation's hottest pitching rotations and it showed today. Starter
Tyler Joyner (3-0) pitched six innings, allowing one run off five
hits and seven strikeouts.
Both team's pitching and defense held
through the first inning of play, but with two on and no outs in
the second-inning Zach Wright hit a line drive single into
centerfield to give East Carolina an early 1-0 lead.
The game turned into a pitching duel and
remained scoreless until the sixth-inning, when Cam
Schiller got the Golden Eagles on the board with his solo home
run.
East Carolina responded with a two out
rally in the bottom half of the sixth-inning, knocking in three
runs with a two-run double and an RBI single to make it 4-1 East
Carolina.
The Golden Eagles rallied in the
ninth-inning, putting runners on first and second with one out when
Nate
Goro stepped up representing the tying run.
Goro hit a single into centerfield,
loading the bases for ORU. But Tyler
Coker was thrown out at second base.
With runners on the corners with
two outs for Kevin
Cho, he laced a single into
left field, scoring Austen
Colt from third to cut the Pirates lead to 4-2.
Schiller stepped up to the plate for his
fifth at-bat of the night looking for the go-ahead. Schiller
connected well with the ball, but it was caught on the warning
track to end the game.
ORU will close out the tournament against
Alabama on Sunday at 2 p.m.
