Box Score
Tulsa, Okla - Jared
Schlehuber and Cam
Schiller's home runs continue to power the Golden Eagles
offense, as ORU finished off a three-game sweep of Alcorn State
12-1 on Sunday.
The Golden Eagles (6-5) scored 10 or more
runs for the third straight game, their fourth double-digit output
of the season. Jose
Trevino, Nate
Goro, Brandon
King, Schiller and Schlehuber all had multiple RBI for ORU as
they finish their eight-game homestand with five consecutive
wins.
Schlehuber hit his fifth home run of the
season, while Cam
Schiller was 2-3 with a home run, double, and a walk.
The Golden Eagles pitching was just as
good as the hitting in the series. Starter Tim
ZuFall pitched four innings, allowing just one run on two hits
with three strikeouts in his first start for ORU. He was also 1-4
with a walk as the designated hitter.
ZuFall was relieved in the fifth-inning
by Dan Martony (2-0) who pitched four scoreless innings, striking
out seven batters and allowing just one hit. Phillip
Wilson made his first appearance as a Golden Eagle in relief of
Martony. Wilson pitched a scoreless ninth-inning with one
strikeout.
Alcorn State (1-9) stayed with the Golden
Eagles through four innings, getting a good effort from starter
Mundo Sanchez, who gave up just one run through four innings. But
the lack of offense and the eight-run fifth-inning was all ORU
needed to finish off Sanchez and the Braves.
ORU started slow, but got on the board
first when an RBI-double by Goro in the third-inning scored King.
It was Goro's tenth RBI of the season.
Alcorn State answered with a sacrifice
fly in the top of the fourth to tie the game 1-1.
Schlehuber's two-run home run got the big
inning started for ORU in the fifth, giving them a 3-1 lead.
Back-to-back two-run doubles by King and Goro to make it 7-1 ORU,
and Schiller finished off the inning with a two-run shot, his third
of the year.
Chris Williams pinch hit for Schlehuber
in the seventh, and his single to left field with the bases loaded
scored Coker, extending the lead to 10-1. Two batters
later, Trevino hit a two-run single to give ORU a 12-1 lead.
ORU travels to Tuscaloosa to face No.14
Louisville in game one of the Alabama Classic on Friday, March 9,
at 1 p.m.
