TULSA, Okla.- Oral Roberts fell to
Oakland 2-0 on Friday at J.L. Johnson Stadium in the Summit League
opener, dropping to 13-15 on the season.
Kurt Giller (1-4) had a quality start,
but could not get any run support and he was credited with the
loss. Giller pitched eight innings, allowing three hits and two
runs with a career-high 11 strikeouts.
The Golden Eagles managed just three hits
in the game.
Oakland (5-21) has never won or split a
season series against ORU, and defeated the Golden Eagles for just
the fifth time ever.
Jeff Gorecki (2-4) threw 8.1 innings for
Oakland, allowing three hits with five strikeouts.
Oakland struck early, scoring two runs in
the top of the third off a two-run single by Mike Carson. It would
be all the offense the Golden Grizzlies would need to put away ORU,
2-0.
The series will resume with a
double-header on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. at J.L. Johnson
Stadium.
