TULSA, Okla.-No. 1 Oral Roberts scored two runs in the bottom of
the eighth inning to beat No. 4 Southern Utah 2-1 in game two of
the 2012 Summit League Baseball Tournament, presented by Currington
Mortgage, Thursday night.
ORU (34-22) had just two hits through seven innings, but got
three in the eighth, including a double by Jose
Trevino to score Brandon
Healy and tie the game. Cam
Schiller followed with a single down the left field line to
score Trevino, which proved to be the game-winning run.
Drew
Bowen pitched eight innings with just one run and six
strikeouts as the Summit League Player of the Year earned his sixth
victory of the season. Joe
Spring finished the last three outs without surrendering a hit
and earned his second save of the year.
Despite a solid pitching performance, Justin Neubauer (6-4) was
hit with the loss. Neubauer was charged with both runs in 7.2
innings of work.
Offensively, Schiller had two of the five hits for ORU, while
Mitchell Kauweloa had three hits and Bo Cuthbertson added two more
to pace the Thunderbirds.
Southern Utah finally broke open the scoring in the top of the
sixth inning as they loaded the bases with just one out. A line
drive to right was caught on a dive by Logan
Domenico and his throw home popped loose as ORU tried to double
up the runner tagging from third.
The Golden Eagles move to the winner's bracket and will face No.
3 North Dakota State at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, while Southern Utah
faces No. 2 Oakland in an elimination game at noon. Live stats and
