Box Score
TULSA, Okla. - The Oral Roberts baseball team
jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on No. 8 Cal State Fullerton on
Sunday, but the Titans were just two strong as the Golden Eagles
fell at home, 7-4.
Nate
Goro entered the game with five hits against a very good
Fullerton pitching staff after the first two games, adding his
sixth atop the Golden Eagle lineup with an infield single in the
first. Graham
McIntyre followed with a grounder to third and Goro was forced
out at second.
With McIntyre standing at first after beating out the double
play attempt, Logan
Domenico ripped a pitch into the right field corner to drive in
the runner. Domenico wasn't standing on third for very long as Tyler
Boss drove him in with a single up the middle.
In the third inning, the Titans got to ORU starter Tim
Zufall with three runs on three hits. Two of the runs were
earned, while a third scored following a pass ball.
After Fullerton added another run the top of the fourth to make
the score 4-2, the Golden Eagles answered with two in the bottom of
the inning to tie the game at four.
Matt
Brandy and Austen
Colt started the inning with a couple of singles, advancing to
third and second on a comebacker to the pitcher off the bat of Sam
Parker. Brandy Healy stepped in and grounded out short,
allowing Brandy to score from third.
Goro picked up this second hit of the contest with two outs,
singling to right field to drive in Colt. Goro ended the three-game
set against the best rotation the Golden Eagles have seen with
seven hits and two runs batted in.
Unfortunately, the Titans got the Golden Eagle bullpen in the
later innings, plating runs in the sixth, eighth and ninth innings
on three hits. Through that stretch, ORU pitchers walked three
batters and hit three batters.
Joining Goro with two hits in the contest was McIntyre and Boss.
The Golden Eagles equaled the powerful Titans with nine hits.
Earning the loss in relief was Brad
Fisher (1-2) and Fullerton's starter Grahamm Wiest improved his
record to 3-1. Michael Lorenzen, who had a hit and two RBI's,
entered the game in the ninth to earn his sixth save.
ORU falls to 5-13 on the season and just 1-9 at home. Up next is
a tough two-game set on Tuesday and Wednesday at Oklahoma. Both
games are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
